Hero-character types in the socialist-realist movement are chosen from the masses. Nonetheless, in some of Bozorg Alavi’s works, such as Her Eyes and Letters, some characters from the upper echelon of society rebel and fight against their privileged class. In the eyes of some scholars, the presence of these characters in the revolution scene is artificial, and the novelist in vain seeks to bridge the gap between these upper-class characters and the revolution current. The present essay believes that linking the revolution with the middle class/ privileged class has not been Bozorg Alavi’s idea only. One can track the examples of these kinds of links in authentic socialist-realist works, particularly, in Gorky’s Mother regarded as the model and the symbol of resistant and political literature. Reflecting on Gorky’s Mother indicates his attention to the lower-class characters neither makes him ignore the potential of the privileged class nor marginalizes and removes them outright. On the contrary, Gorky depicts some of his bourgeois characters with revolutionary personalities. These bourgeois revolutionary characters work with the proletarian class rebelling against their class, Alongside the working class, these bourgeois characters fight against the tyranny of masters and capitalists from the upper class. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach and benefitting from library research and the comparative method, the current study seeks to examine the ‘personality type’ of ‘Natasha’ and ‘Shirin’ in Gorky’s mother and Alavi’s Letters. This study’s findings demonstrated that Natasha and Shirin are female characters from a privileged class; they have commonalities and similar reasons to revolt against their class.
