Parvin E’tesami is a contemporary poet, but she writes in the style of the poets of return to literary classicism. In her poetry, E’tesami directs her attention not only to Khorasani style poets such as Nasir Khusraw and Anvari but also to Iraqi style poets like Saadi. By adopting the classical poets as their role models, the poets of return to literary classicism seek to create literary works with the same ambience and content. For instance, E’tesami composed her ‘The Orphan’s Tear’ by imitating Anvari’s ‘The Penurious Governor.’ By employing textual analysis, close reading, and descriptive content analysis, the current study aims to compare The Orphan’s Tear’ with Anvari’s ‘The Penurious Governor’ based on social, literary, and linguistic criteria. According to the study’s findings, though E’tesami copies Anvari’s poem, her poetry is more effective than Anvari’s poem in terms of its more powerful imagery, flowing language, and coherent ending. The study also indicates that Anvari’s poem is more effective, eloquent, and vigorous in terms of presenting morality compared with that of E’tesami. Moreover, the impact of the poet’s lifetime socio-political events in some cases is visible in E’tesami’s poem. In Anvari’s poem, the soliloquy overwhelms the dialogue, while in that of E’tesami, the dialogue and polyphony are evident. In his poem, Anvari is a victorious preacher, while E’tesami in his poem is the defeated fighter, challenging the accuracy of her act.
