Literature is one of the chief tools for understanding culture and thinking in every society since it mirrors attitudes, values, discourses, and ways of thinking in each period. As the most important literary form in the modern period, the sociology of literature examines the relationship between the novel and social context, reflecting the routine life. Since influenced more than other literary forms by social conditions, novels can represent the social structure in the best way. Anthony Giddens in his structuration theory explores the notions of action, structures, and the dialectic relationship between the structure and agency. According to the theory, social structures are the mediums of actions and at the same time, these structures are reproduced by social actions. By employing Gidden’s structuration theory and the descriptive-analytical approach, the current study seeks to read Houshang Golshiri’s Christine and the Kid, his most suspenseful and experimental novel, in the light of sociology to extract five (sociological) concepts: the encounter between the East and the West, the subject’s objectification, apathy and passivity, women and feminine identity, and finally rebellion and reflexivity.
